How to rest in a sound bath

How to arrive at a sound bath if you have never rested in a group before.

Sound does not require you to perform. You can lie down, keep your eyes open, and still receive the session. The practice is staying with sensation as tone moves through the room.

Arriving without a plan

If group rest is new, give yourself permission to be ordinary. Bring layers, a bottle of water, and the expectation that your mind will wander. Wandering is not failure; it is the material.

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothes you can lie down in.
  • A sweater — rooms often cool as people settle.
  • An eye covering if darkness helps you rest.

During the bath

  1. Find a position you can keep without bracing.
  2. If emotion rises, let it move without explaining it.
  3. Sit up slowly at the end and drink water before you speak.
You can keep your eyes open and still be in the practice.
