Meditation with other people is not a performance. You can fidget, sit against a wall, or keep a soft gaze. The circle is the container; your job is only to arrive.
Silence that does not isolate
Solo practice can turn into self-critique. In a circle, the room holds the hour. You borrow other people’s steadiness. That is not cheating; it is how nervous systems learn safety.
You are allowed to
- Shift position whenever the body asks.
- Keep your eyes softly open.
- Skip the closing share if words feel like too much.
A first-visit rhythm
- Arrive a few minutes early and choose a seat near an exit if that helps.
- Follow the guided start, then let the silence be imperfect.
- Stay for the closing bell before you decide how it felt.
The circle is the container. You do not have to hold it alone.
See meditation circles for how we sit, who it is for, and how to join.
